Stupid smokers...

Stupid.ca wins the Marketing Magazine Best in Show award for Digital Marketing - and with great reason! The site is awesome. www.stupid.ca

I posted a message on my blog (version one, she's dead now!) about this campaign last year. There's something to be said in delivering humour with a message - when it's done right (take note Leon's).

I am an ex-smoker, I'm not a member of the smoke-police, but I'm all for non-smoking in Toronto. Let's face it, the verdicts in and smoking really is a stupid habit. Even when I was a smoker I knew it was stupid. Now that I have a child, the thought of a smokeless world sounds pretty good. Even Ireland and Italy have gone non-smoking! I've spent much time in both countries and I can tell you, if they can pull it off, we should be able to everywhere else.

For those of you trying to quit right now...best of luck to you! You can do it!

I can also suggest a very entertaining book called Thank You For Smoking.

I read this a few years ago, but it always stuck with me. It's a tale of a guy how works for the cigarette people. He's a PR man and will stoop to any level to convince people that smoking isn't bad for you, without actually claiming that it's not bad for you. Great book, very funny!

There's also a movie, but I don't know much about it (yet).

Cheers.

The smoking ban in Ireland is brilliant! It's such a good feeling to wake up in the morning and not smell like you fell asleep in an ash tray. Even smokers appreciate this and they have the benefit of have nice sheltered(rains alot here) patio areas, with outdoor heaters to do their smoking in and yap away to fellow smokers about how they'd love to quit! I even get annoyed now when I smell smoke on the street! Everyone here thought it would never work because of our pub culture and that it would be impossible to enforce, but it's become completely unacceptable to smoke anywhere where people work indoors. The only exceptions to the rule are prisons, psychiatric hospitals, hotel rooms and I think bedrooms in old folks homes, which is fair enough I guess. This country used to be one of the smokiest places in the world, way smokier than Toronto anyway. If we can do it you Canucks will have no problem!!
