Businesses urged to shut off lights at night

You know I'm all for conserving energy. I've often wondered if we learned anything from the Great Blackout of 2003.
There is an article on canada.com today from the Canadian Press that is requesting office building owners to turn off their lights at night. The dark offices are not a ploy to confuse late night cleaners, or to save energy for that matter - it's to save birds.

Now, I'm also all for the conservation of wildlife, but suddenly I saw the (office?) light!

How about all buildings LEAVE their lights on all night! Why? To protect us from bird flu of course! The cases of human (and cat) deaths are increasing, and the WHO is freaking out....it's not a bad idea now is it?

Of course, those office cleaners will be stuck with the job of picking up a litter of dead birds every morning.

Surely there's some way we can all win here? Any ideas?

Cover the entire GTA in a giant net, and arrange the lit and unlit windows of buildings across the city to spell BIRDS GO HOME (UNLESS THIS IS HOME, IN WHICH CASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE)
