This weekend I had to take a drive to pick up H at the airport. When I got to the car I discovered I had a flat tire. Luckily, it was way earlier in the day, so I had time to take care of the problem.
It was on Sunday, so the shops around our place were all closed. I took a drive (in the other car) to Canadian Tire. There was a huge line up! I waited in it for about 15 minutes, and it only moved up once.
I got fed up and decided to check to see if they sold any fix it kits. To my luck I found a couple of awesome devices that you should have in your car!
The first one is a mini-compressor that plugs into your cigarette lighter (the one in the car, not the one in your pocket - geesh, are you that dumb?). This baby is about the size of a pair of binoculars and worked like a charm. It cost $15.00
The next item is a tire plug kit. I use to work at garage in my teens; I fixed many a tire in my day. They actually sell the same tools and plugs, and the best part is they're about $10.00.
It takes a bit of strength to wedge the nail out of the tire and to plug it. This only works of the nail is accessible. If the nail is in the sidewall you can kiss your tire good-bye.
All in all with tax it cost me about $30.00. It would have cost more than that to have the tire repaired, not to mention a tow truck to fill the flat before I went anywhere.
Everyone should own one of those compressors!
