Introducing the children's laptop from One Laptop per Child—a potent learning tool created expressly for the world's poorest children living in its most remote environments. The laptop was designed collaboratively by experts from both academia and industry, bringing to bear both extraordinary talent and many decades of collective field experience in every aspect of this non-profit humanitarian project. The result is a unique harmony of form and function; a flexible, ultra low-cost, power-efficient, responsive, and durable machine with which nations of the emerging world can leapfrog decades of development—immediately transforming the content and quality of their children's learning. There's a short video here.

It's super cool and a great idea but will our children still have to pay well over a grand for a laptop? I don't have that kind of cash even though I don't live in the third world.
I think by the time our kids are a bit older prices will come down substantially too. These lap tops aren't the fanciest either, but what's really cool is the wireless possibilities.
In theory these impoverished kids will be able to communicate with kids on this side of the pond.
I hear where you're coming from though. There's a lot of starving and homeless people in New Orleans (and every other major city) who need help too.
I guess you can't help all of the people, all of the time.
D
Don't get me wrong, I agree, they are super cool, I like the idea, and I like what they've done with them.
I just hope they extend the program world-wide after it's inevitable success in Africa. All children should have a level playing field, regardless of where they are from.
As it is, I probably couldn't afford one of these $100 ones for our son and I have a corporate America job. At least that's good for digging yourself into debt and helping our economy, right?
