Tom Waits is awesome. I don't have to tell you that, you already knew that. I've been listening to his latest album Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards...it grows on me each time.
Currently, The Road to Peace is stuck in my head, it's so good. He successfully paints a typical day in Iraq. This unusal for Tom Waits, he normally stears clear of the political stuff. Have a listen here it's an incredible song.

Can a MP3 file protect you from burglars?

Yep. Check out this file from WFMU's blog. Just play this file on loop at a pretty decent volume by your front door. The best part is the audio was actually created for this purpose. It's from an album called "Play It Safe! Vol. 4" released in 1972.
Press PLAY

All Songs Considered: 10 best CDs of 2006
I love NPR. Especially a show called All Songs Considered, which is available in podcast format for all you non-NPR-types (myself included).
I have discovered many gems on the show, which features new music from an array of bands from every genre under the sun.
All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen counts down listener picks for the 10 best CDs of 2006, with reviewers Robert Christgau, Will Hermes, Meredith Ochs and John Richards. They also share some of their own favorites from the year and take comments from listeners. This program originally webcast live on NPR.org Dec. 5, 2006. Below are the top 10 CDs of 2006 chosen in our online poll, with select comments from the listeners who love them.
You can subscribe to the show here.
Enjoy.

Top of my Christmas list!

In the last year I've replaced my iPod battery, only to have it die almost a year later. I need to buy a new MP3 player for Christmas, but I've discovered an even better alternative!
